OUR BEGINNINGS

The Compassion Foundation is a local 501 (c )(3) charitable organization that was officially established in February of 2017.

With its volunteers and supporters, our nonprofit has a heartfelt concern for the needs of the underprivileged children in the area. We also are very connected with children what have had death and loss in their lives and are in need of extra support.

Over the course of time we have been able to help meet the basic needs of families, single parents, the elderly, people with disabilities, the homeless and Veterans; by providing fresh breads, baked goods, fruits, vegetables and other life sustaining essentials to countless people in our area. We have delivered food as well as new clothing, books and quality hygiene products.

The founder of the organization, Amberly Mae-Cooper, felt there was a great need in the local areas for help. While teaching a class in 2015,  several young mothers moved to the area and were starting over entirely. Amberly had offered to make some phone calls to help them find, what she expected to be a wealth of help for the women and children, only to find that so few organizations were able to help and if so it was with very little. She found ways using her own means and in contacting some friends to help the woman and children, however, her heart was grieved by the lack of resources for people in need. Then over time she helped with several community events. Then the summer of 2015 she put on a great event that was held in the ballroom and veranda of the Al Ringling Mansion with the support of friend and owner Joe Colossa, the event had garnered the help of local musicians, food establishments, local fashion designers, artists and many more; Hero’s to the Hungry, was what the newspaper coined the event, Bountiful Ballroom which provided money and food baskets to people in need. That was the first event that had been entirely devoted to feeding people. Her desire to help more people on a greater spectrum grew and as she herself worked with children and as a journalist she realized that she could help people at a greater magnitude by officially starting the paperwork for a non-profit organization. By 2017 she had already had over 70,000 dollars of food go through her hands and vehicle to get out to people. It meant long hours and making late night food drop offs and organizing and bagging the items herself but she knew more people would be eating if she kept going.

In addition, Amberly has gotten to work with many groups within the Wisconsin Dells and Baraboo areas as a journalist. She has written and at times continues to write for many publications including the Wisconsin Dells Events, The Baraboo News Republic,  The Reedsburg Times Press, The Sauk Prairie Eagle, The Wisconsin State Journal and More. She has always enjoyed doing articles for the areas nonprofits.
